Still need support coordination – here’s what to do!

Were you using CORE funding for support coordination?

Wondering what to do next?

Look no further...

As you may know, the NDIS and our wonderful, shiny, glorious, no doubt be spared government of the day... has discontinued CORE support coordination options form 31 March 2021.

But... did you know there are various flexibility options you can use to obtain a support coordination-like service?   Yep that's right!  There are different ways to go about still getting the help you need.

As usual, it all comes down to your NDIS plan and how it's been funded.

There is one way left in CORE funds.  There are several ways depending on the capacity building supports you've been funded for.

Each of the ways you can still get help have a few 'gotchas' to consider. Depending on the options available you can do almost all the things you were getting help for previously.  As the worst case... you may need to focus your coordination needs to a specific area.  For example: under Capacity Building - Social and Community, you could get specific help to find and link with programs and activities of interest to you.

SchemeWise experts can help you in any area of your plan if you need support coordination.  Just get in touch... we're very happy to meet and talk about the options you could use under your plan.  And remember... it's always your choice whether you go ahead or not.

DO NOT be fooled by the government's and NDIS claims that people can seek a plan review under the reasonable and necessary criteria either.  Unless a person is in the first 3 months or last period of their plan (where this can be done easily) the NDIS actually applies the 'change of circumstance' rules to determine reasonable and necessary.

Under these 'circumstance rules' the fundamental evidence required is a 'permanent or likely to be permanent change in function, setting, living arrangements, etc.'  In most cases, the majority of people will NOT meet this benchmark. And essentially the NDIS is actually saying NO... without using those words.  For this reason it is better to consider the available funds in your existing plan in a smarter way... firstly.  That's where SchemeWise can help.

Why not call SchemeWise on 1300 785 567 or use our contact form.

We'll be in contact shortly to help out.

SchemeWise may not be able to help if your plan review is very close to ending though.  In these circumstances we can help by providing initial guidance around your circumstances and what we think you'll need in terms of coordination support, NEXT plan.  We can also issue you a Quote to take to your plan review too (we'll need to discuss your needs with you and have an understanding of your goals to do this).

And... if you need help with your goals, but can't obtain a coordinator to help, you can always get help from a SchemeWise counsellor instead who can help you decide the best goals to make for your plan review! (See we really do have you covered.)

In all cases it is very important you consider what evidence you have from other providers reports (or your treating doctor) which might be useful to discuss at your review in terms of enhancing your claim for the need for coordination funding? You could also make a short letter yourself and add to your document evidence on your NDIS portal.  Good options to highlight are transitions - change in housing, leaving school, etc; changes in function(doctor's other therapy letters) which mention you need more help; or the need to re-plan services if things are not working well.

If you are NOT granted coordination after your plan review... just remember you LAC is given 10 hours of support money from the NDIS to help instead.  Make sure you use it as otherwise you are giving it to them for no reason... and certainly no benefit to you!

SchemeWise is a proud employer of people living with disability too.
